In a recent meeting held in Hanoi, key officials from Vietnam and Japan have underscored their mutual dedication to enhancing cooperation between their ruling parties and legislative bodies. The discussions took place between Nguyễn Duy Ngọc, a senior official of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and Hagiuda Koichi, the Executive Acting Secretary-General of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).
Both parties expressed satisfaction with the ongoing progress of the Vietnam–Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They emphasized their commitment to intensifying political dialogues and parliamentary interactions, a move that follows the visit of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to Vietnam earlier this year. This dedication to deepening ties reflects a shared vision for future collaboration.
During the talks, Nguyễn Duy Ngọc praised Vietnam’s robust economic performance and ongoing administrative reforms. He suggested that Japan could play a crucial role in sharing its expertise in local governance and decentralization, which would significantly aid Vietnam’s institutional development. Furthermore, he advocated for broader cooperation in areas such as human resource development, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, green transition, economic security, and quantum technology.
Nguyễn also emphasized the necessity for closer collaboration between the two countries’ parliamentary friendship groups and the importance of facilitating greater exchanges among young lawmakers. Additionally, the Vietnamese delegation proposed that Japan continue its support for the Vietnamese community residing in Japan and suggested simplifying visa procedures. A long-term objective was set for the introduction of visa-free travel for Vietnamese citizens traveling to Japan.
Hagiuda Koichi, representing Japan, echoed the call for expanded bilateral cooperation. He assured that Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party and its parliament are committed to promoting joint initiatives and exchanges, particularly in advanced technologies, digital innovation, and green energy. This mutual affirmation of cooperation marks a significant step in strengthening the strategic relationship between Vietnam and Japan.
