Japan’s Nikkei 225 surged 2.5% in trading by midday Monday, marking a robust start to the week for the index. This upward movement was mirrored by the broader Topix index, which saw a 1.2% increase.

Among the standout performers, electronics manufacturer TDK saw its shares climb 8%, while watchmaker Seiko Holdings experienced a 6.8% rise. These gains reflect a positive sentiment in the Japanese stock market at the beginning of the week.

In contrast, the Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong saw a slight decline, dipping 0.3%. Meanwhile, stock markets in mainland China and South Korea remained closed due to public holidays, leaving the focus on Japan and Hong Kong for regional market activity.
