Foldable iPhone’s Potential to Revolutionize Foldable Tech Market

by admin477351

Apple is poised to make a significant impact on the foldable smartphone market with the anticipated release of its first foldable iPhone. Analysts suggest that this move could revitalize a segment that has recently experienced a slowdown. Although global shipments of foldable smartphones dropped by 8% year-on-year in the first half of 2026, market researchers predict a robust recovery in the latter half of the year. The total shipments are expected to reach approximately 23 million units in 2026, with continued growth projected into 2027.

Industry experts forecast that Apple will rapidly secure a substantial share of the market following the introduction of its foldable device. Smart Analytics Global projects that Apple could capture 25% of global foldable shipments by the end of 2026, potentially increasing to 41% by 2027. Despite this optimistic outlook, the new device may initially encounter supply challenges due to the complexities involved in manufacturing foldable technology. Furthermore, an anticipated price exceeding $2,000 might restrict initial demand and availability, prompting Apple to initially release the product in select markets before a broader global launch.

According to research firm IDC, Apple’s entry into the foldable arena is expected to transform it into one of the fastest-growing sectors within the smartphone industry. The firm predicts that by 2027, Apple could ship more than 17 million foldable iPhones, accounting for about 40% of the global foldable smartphone market. Overall, IDC expects the foldable market to reach 22.9 million units in 2026, reflecting a 12.6% increase, and approximately 27 million units in 2027, marking an 18% growth.

The introduction of a foldable iPhone could substantially alter the competitive dynamics in the market, presenting a formidable challenge to established players such as Samsung, Huawei, Vivo, and Xiaomi. Reports indicate that Apple’s inaugural foldable model might feature a 5.5-inch cover display and a 7.8-inch main display, equipped with Touch ID, an A20 Pro chip based on a 2-nanometer process, and dual 48-megapixel cameras.

If Apple can successfully navigate the manufacturing complexities and address its high pricing strategy, its entry could provide a significant boost to the foldable smartphone category, quickly positioning the company as a dominant force in this evolving market.
